The Armor of God & Prayer

…and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:17-18‬

I think it’s interesting that the passage about the armor of God ends with instruction about prayer. But in light of the opening of this section about what we are actually battling (For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. V12), it makes a lot of sense. The spiritual armor is invisible. Yes, obvious point haha. The Bible is visible, but you can’t buy a sword-shaped Bible and swing it around in the air. Won’t do anything, except make you look a little crazy.

So, I think clothed with armor, you enter into battle well equipped and protected to intercede for others. You are also equipped and protected to battle the enemy in your own spiritual walk as well. Yes, I have to have my own armor on, but I wonder how many battles in my life were won because another saint had their armor on and was fighting for me in prayer.

I confess that prayer doesn’t always seem like an exciting battle. In movies some soldiers are depicted as loving the battle so much that they can’t return to normal life afterwards. I wonder if you can grow in prayer and intercession where it becomes somewhat like an addiction to partner with God through prayer, and see how God moves through those prayers. Pastor Min was sharing about how he is addicted to fasting – not the actual fasting portion of it, but the encounters with God he has in those times after he breaks fast.

God, teach me how to pray and intercede more. I really want to be excited to partner with brothers and sisters in prayer of course in being there physically as a friend. Help me to put on the whole armor – not just pieces or things that I am investing into at certain times. The whole armor needs to be on in order to fight the enemies lies – both for me and for one another!
